Brunca · Costa Rica
lime | caramel | cherry
The Region
Brunca covers Costa Rica's southern highlands, stretching through the provinces of San José and Puntarenas toward the Panamanian border. The region's farms span a range of altitudes and microclimates, producing coffees that tend toward sweetness and body rather than sharp acidity. It's a less-documented region than Tarrazú or the Central Valley, which means its best lots often go quietly to the roasters who know where to look.
The Farm
The Fonseca Alvarado family farms in the shadow of Chirripó — Costa Rica's highest peak — in one of the more remote growing areas in the country's southern region. Distance from the main coffee corridors has always meant growing for quality over volume, and the family has built their farm around that logic. What they produce here is unhurried and specific to this corner of the country.
