The Region
Tarrazú is Costa Rica's most celebrated coffee region — a rugged, high-altitude landscape in the mountains of San José province where farms sit between 1,400 and 1,900 meters. Volcanic soil, a distinct dry season, and significant day-to-night temperature variation produce coffees with pronounced brightness, full body, and layered complexity. When people think of Costa Rican coffee at its most expressive, they're usually thinking of Tarrazú.
The Farm
La Lucha — "the struggle" — is the kind of name you give a farm in the mountains of Tarrazú, where the terrain is steep, the climate is demanding, and the work is unrelenting. Martín Padilla farms here at altitude, on land that rewards every bit of effort put into it. The name is honest, and so is the coffee.
